JSON to XML Converter
Convert JSON data to XML format — browser-based, no server
How to Use the JSON to XML Converter
- Paste your JSON data.
- Optionally set a root element name.
- Click Convert to transform it to XML.
Keys starting with @ become XML attributes. #text becomes text content. Arrays become repeated elements. The converter handles nested objects recursively.
What is JSON to XML Conversion?
JSON to XML conversion transforms modern JSON data objects into well-formed XML documents. It maps JSON keys to XML element tags, arrays to repeated siblings, and primitives to element text values, facilitating smooth interoperability with enterprise systems, SOAP endpoints, and legacy XML processing pipelines.
Common Uses
- Generating XML request payloads for legacy enterprise SOAP web services
- Exporting modern application database records into industry-standard XML schemas
- Interfacing web applications with banking, healthcare, and telecommunication XML APIs
- Generating sitemaps, RSS feeds, and XML configuration manifests
Frequently Asked Questions
Does XML require a root element when converted from JSON?
Yes. Valid XML documents must have exactly one top-level root element. Our tool automatically wraps your JSON keys in a standard `
What happens if a JSON key contains characters invalid in XML tag names?
XML tag names cannot contain spaces or certain special symbols. The converter sanitizes invalid characters to ensure the resulting output is 100% compliant with W3C XML specifications.
Can I format and indent the resulting XML output?
Yes. The converter provides options for pretty-printed, indented XML or compact, minified output ready for network transmission.
Notes from this implementation
JSON types XML does not have
JSON has numbers, booleans, null, and a distinction between a string "1" and a number 1. XML text is text. This converter has to write a convention for null and for booleans, and a root element name, because a JSON value does not have a document element. Pick that root and stay with it if another service will parse the XML.
Keys that are not valid XML names (a leading digit, a space, a character XML forbids) cannot become tag names without being rewritten. If a key is rewritten, the reverse conversion will not reproduce the original key. Check one object that has awkward keys before you batch a file.
